A little bit about me........

As a qualified Textile teacher living in West Kirby on the Wirral I have taught many aspects of creative textiles. The most frequently asked question is, “Where do you get your ideas from?” I simply say “by looking around me”. I am fascinated by wonderful patterns, depth of colour and the complexities of shape and form in everything that surrounds us. The most mundane objects can create inspiration for my work. Looking beyond the derelict buildings, crumbled walls with moss and rusty railings, rich colours, shapes and textures emerge, which can be the starting point for many pieces of work. Patterns on buildings new and old, shapes on doors, the colours of objects after years of weathering are often not appreciated for their hidden beauty or just not noticed. In my work I try to highlight through multimedia material the beauty of all that surrounds us, whether it be an instant attraction or the surface has to be scratched.

Italy has become a treasure trove of ideas and images for me. The beautiful medieval city of Siena has provided the inspiration and a myriad of images to fuel my passion for creative art work. Media such as cloth, hand made paper, photographs, shells and stones are included in a piece of art work that captures memories of a special place or meaning.

Currently I am creating large pieces of artwork that make a bold statement in a room, business place, hotel or restaurant. These are based on shapes, colours, textures and photographs which have developed from my observations. Commissions have involved creating art work for designated spaces incorporating the colour scheme of the surroundings.
